Havana is located directly on the bank of the Illinois River at 40°17′49″N 90°3′36″W (40.297067, -90.060004), near the Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge and a short distance from the Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge and The Nature Conservancy's Emiquon Preserve. Havana has a total area of 2.8 square miles (7.2 km²), of which, 2.6 square miles (6.8 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (5.40%) is water.
The Havana Regional Airport is approximately a one hour flight from Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri making it just about the perfect flight through the Midwest up or down the Illinois River Valley, revealing all of the beautiful natural resources we so proudly boast along the way.
Havana is a small town of about 3,400 citizens, but it has many features and amenities that make it a great place visit, including boutique shopping, great restaurants, a beautiful riverfront park, exciting local activities and events, and some of the friendliest people you will find in the Midwest. Havana's bridge will lead you to nearby wineries, Native American history and the Dickson Mounds State Museum as well as the vast array of natural resources and sites, including the Emiquon complex, within a few miles.
Havana also has many links to Abraham Lincoln, and is a short distance from the New Salem State Park where you can walk through the village and experience what life was like for Lincoln when he lived in our area. Springfield, Illinois, which is only about an hour drive to the South also features many historic Lincoln sites as well as the amazing Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.
